Frequently asked questions

Read the most common questions about Koda 95. If you have further questions, get in touch — we're happy to help.

What is Koda 95 and who needs it?

Koda 95 is a designation of professional driver qualification that is entered on a driving licence or on a driver qualification card. It is required by all professional drivers who carry out commercial road transport of goods using vehicles with a maximum authorised mass of more than 3,500 kg, or transport passengers in vehicles with more than 9 seats. Without a valid Koda 95, professional driving of a truck or bus is not permitted — neither in Slovenia nor elsewhere in the European Union.

Which vehicle categories does Koda 95 apply to?

Koda 95 applies to categories C1, C1E, C and CE (transport of goods) and D1, D1E, D and DE (transport of passengers). It is entered next to the relevant categories on your driving licence for which you have completed the required training. Koda 95 obtained in Slovenia is recognised in all EU member states.

Who needs to complete initial training?

Initial training (obtaining the initial qualification) must be completed by all drivers who do not yet have Koda 95 and want to drive trucks or buses professionally. This applies to new drivers who have passed their category C or D driving test, as well as drivers from third countries who are employed by Slovenian transport companies. Drivers who already have Koda 95 only need to complete periodic training to extend its validity.

What are the requirements for enrolling in initial training?

To enrol, you need a valid driving licence for the appropriate category (at least C1 for the transport of goods or D1 for the transport of passengers) or a certificate confirming that you have passed the driving test. Third-country nationals (e.g. citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, North Macedonia, Kosovo or Albania) must also submit proof of their intention to take up employment with a company based in Slovenia when registering. Candidates without permanent residence must also provide proof of temporary residence in the Republic of Slovenia.

How does initial training for Koda 95 work?

Initial training follows the accelerated procedure for obtaining the initial qualification and consists of theoretical training. The lectures cover safe and economical driving, regulations on working hours and tachographs, occupational safety, and the basics of transport operations. After completing the training, you must take an exam.

How does the exam for obtaining Koda 95 work?

The exam is conducted by a state examination commission and consists of two parts. The theoretical part is a written test with a limited time for completion, while the practical part is a driving test conducted in the presence of a driving instructor. After successfully passing the exam, you receive a certificate confirming that you have obtained the initial qualification.

Can I complete the training if I do not yet have a C or D category driving licence?

Yes. A candidate who has not yet passed the driving test for the appropriate category can begin training to obtain the initial qualification. Based on a certificate from the training provider confirming that the training has started, the candidate can then also take the driving test. However, you may only take the Koda 95 exam once you have a valid driving licence or a certificate confirming that you have passed the driving test for the appropriate category.

Where and how is Koda 95 entered after passing the exam?

Based on the certificate confirming that you have obtained the initial qualification, you can submit an application at any administrative unit to have Koda 95 entered on your driving licence. Drivers who do not have a Slovenian driving licence are issued a driver qualification card. Koda 95 is valid for 5 years from the date of passing the exam.

How much does initial training for Koda 95 cost?

The price of initial training for Koda 95 starts at EUR 600. The final price depends on the category and type of transport (truck or bus), as well as on whether the driver is a Slovenian citizen or comes from abroad, as the procedures and required documentation may differ. The price includes theoretical training, practical driving lessons and exam preparation. For the current price and available dates, please contact us.

How long does it take from registration to having Koda 95 entered?

The entire process, from the start of the lectures through practical driving lessons and the exam to the registration at the administrative unit, usually takes a few weeks, depending on the available training date and exam schedule. Since available dates fill up quickly, we recommend registering as early as possible, especially if you have agreed on employment and need Koda 95 quickly.
